Blue Skies is a book that completely blew my mind, T.L. Martin grabbed me by the soul with every word. But honestly, having not read anything by her before made me feel a little nervous because I didn't know what to expect from the story, little did I know her words were going to hit me right in the feels, and now I'm going to read her previous works, and whatever she decides to write.
With a heart of gold and a sunny personality, Blue is everything Joshua is not, and the longer these two spend time together, the more their relationship turns into something else. These two owned my heart from the very beginning, and it wasn't just them, but the entire story itself—the plot, the second characters, and the touching writing style.
Blue and Joshua were so real and complex, they lived and bleed, and their story encompasses it all: happiness, sadness, laughter, fear, and when it comes full circle, will only go to prove that love is always worth waiting for— "Because when you love someone, it's not just you anymore. You do what's right for them, not you."
Beautifully written and with a powerful message about mental health, T.L. Martin delivers an all-consuming story about love and finding yourself, that will pull at your heartstrings and will stay with you long after you finish reading it.
I would have loved a more extended epilogue. I think I love Blue and Joshua so much that I just wanted more. And please, can Kimmie get her own book? Please, please, please!
Thank you so much to T.L. Martin for the chance to read the book in exchange for an honest review ♡.

Whew! This book ran me through the gauntlet of emotions. Each time I thought I had reached a place where things would start easing up, bam! Something else was added. I was cursing this author for doing this to me and then cheering her on for being able to write this kind of angst in a way that kept me turning pages instead of throwing my kindle.
Blue was a unique heroine, a hippie, a flower child of our time and I loved her positive outlook on life and everything around her. Even when those around her tormented her she handled it with style and grace. Joshua was a broken hero with so much pain in his life and a soul of darkness keeping him company. Watching him face the light that was Blue was absolutely beautiful.
I don't want to spoiler anything, but I do feel compelled to say that this story takes a turn that I never saw coming, despite knowing the trigger warnings. I am amazed at the way this author plotted Blue and Joshua's story. If I have any complaint, it is that the heaviest angst all hits at the same time even when there were different avenues that were the culprits of the drama. I would have liked some of the drama to be a bit more spread out.
Nevertheless, I loved these characters, including the supporting roles that added so much depth to the story and the journey they each had to take. Any book that can make me smile, laugh, cry, sob, and then rejoice at the end is a book well worth my time and Blue Skies was definitely worth every moment.

(view spoiler)[ As the story progresses you find out that one of the characters has been suffering with depression. For me the way T.L. Martin writes those chapters where you learn of this character's life story, it was written so beautifully that I cried. It struck a chord with me and I truly felt their pain. I think the MVP for this book was Blue's dad, I lowkey want his story and see his past with Blue's mom :) I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I do wish we got to see the couple a few years down the line when they have been together for sometime, as I am well know to be a HEA and Epilogue whore lol. To my fellow safety gang members, this book is safe. Neither are virgins, but the hero did have an adventurous past but has been celibate for a while, she has only been with one person. They did separate for two years but he said that there is no one else for him so I assume both have been celibate. There is a major death in this book (Secondary Character)! So be warned if that is a tricky subject for you!

Her stepsister may not be the kindest person but sis came through when Blue needed her.
Joshua Hunt has such a sad life and for someone at 18 to go through all of this, he has a determination that I strive to achieve. He has been dealt a pretty shitty hand but I liked his relationship with Blue's dad and Henry. I just empathized with him and I liked how he tried really hard to support Blue

'Sometimes, when I really let myself feel all that surrounds me in this great big world, it steals the breath straight from my lungs.'
Blue has arrived at her father's house to stay for a few months while her mother goes off on a crystal expedition. This is the first time she has met her father in the 17 years she has been alive and she has no idea what to expect. Finding out that he has a new wife and step daughter was also unexpected. However, they all make her feel very welcome.
Blue is going to be attending public school for the first time in her life and finishing out her last year of high school. She definitely garners a lot of attention, she has her own unique style which does not follow any fashion trends or popular culture. She has been sheltered from that her entire life thus far so it is going to take some adjusting to. Even sitting up at a desk to learn instead of sitting on the grass outside is a big adjustment.
'All my life, I've been able to find beauty in things. It's something my mom taught me years ago; If you can't change your surroundings, change the way you look at them.'
Joshua Hunt (Hunt) lives in the guest house in Blue's backyard and also goes to the same school. He is very aloof and keeps to himself. Straight away Blue is drawn to him, there is just something about him that captures her interest and she wants to know more. Hunt does not like to share anything about himself with anyone, he has put up shields to protect his secrets so he can focus on what he needs to do to graduate.
'He's like the night sky just before a tornado hits: heavy and quiet all at once, whispering secret, dangerous promises and threatening to erupt at any moment.'
Somehow, Blue manages to chip away at Hunt's barriers and they form a friendship that turns into something deeper, something neither of them want to deny anymore. It's been a long time since Hunt had someone care about him the way that Blue does and it feels amazing. He is wary about sharing too much, he needs to keep some things to himself still. He loves looking at the word through Blue coloured glasses and every time he is around her she brings light into his life.
'Over one hundred billion. And that's just our galaxy, not the billions of others. And yet, right now, this,' - I glance down at my palm against his chest - 'you are the only real thing there is to me. We're floating in this endless sea of universes and life, and somehow, we both wound up right here. Just like this. Tangled up and breathing each other's air,'
Blue is enjoying getting to know her dad and she appreciates the time she is spending with him. After a surprise visit from her mother, this story completely changes. Hunt's secrets begin to unravel and everything he has worked hard for could be slipping away from him. Blue seems to be the perfect calm to Hunt's storm, she brings the blue skies with her everywhere she goes.
Maybe fate brought these two into each other's lives for a reason?
This is the first story I have read from TL Martin and it was a fantastic story, rich in emotion and kept me up late into the night :)

Joshua and Blue were both irresistible. He's tightly wound and she's a free-spirit. Their bohemian-like rhapsody provides an evenly balanced dose of tears, heartbreak, smiles and most assuredly will make your heart skip a beat. T.L. Martin does an amazing job of portraying each emotion.
A wonderfully diversified cast of support characters keep things interesting includes, Blue's dad, whom she has had a less than favorable relationship, a smart-mouthed "iffy" step-sister who's the opposite of Blue, Henry, the sweetest, but secretive, homeless man, who was Joshua's comrade-in-arms, and Blue's hippie-type mom, Susie, who struggled everyday of her life unbeknownst to Blue.
After such a stunning story, the only complaint I had was the ending was rather lackluster – although satisfying. I would have been so much happier and very appreciative of a more demonstrative finale – one that provided that missing awe-factor.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this coming of age novel. It was a well written story on a painful subject like depression. I applaud the author for handling it in such a delicate manner. It seemed so simple but it was quite layered and emotional. I am glad I read this book.Blue Everest was simply a happy girl who lived with her mother who home schooled her and taught her that everything she needed existed in nature. One day, her mother announced that she decided to introduce Blue to the father she never knew existed, and asked her to spend some time with him and his family. So in a blink of an eye, Blue was thrust into a whole new world.
At school, Blue meets a troubled boy Joshua Hunt and they make a connection. Joshua's home life was difficult and so he didn't believe he could offer Blue a happy future. But young love is powerful, sweet and sometimes painful. Blue and Joshua started growing up and understanding the world in a new way.
The writing was sweet and poignant. I really liked both Blue and Joshua. I was suspicious of Blue's father and stepsister for most of the book because I wasn't sure about their real feelings. I was surprised by their characters including Blue's mother. But each one of them had to grow and accept their new situation. They were flawed yet likeable but most of all, they had to be adapted. The ending surprised me as it was emotional. I was really moved but I was happy at the end.
Special Thanks to the Author for the e-ARC given in exchange for an honest review.

So often we don't see—let alone feel—the magic in the moments we're making until we're old enough to pause and view them as memories.
Blue was going to be staying with her dad, who she had never met or Blue Skies was a story filled with hope, love, family, secrets, hurt and trust. The writing had this calming effect, even though you were taken on a sea of emotions. So if you're a fan of opposites attract and YA books that are seductive and hot, then definitely add this one to your tbr!
So often we don't see—let alone feel—the magic in the moments we're making until we're old enough to pause and view them as memories.
Blue was going to be staying with her dad, who she had never met or even knew existed until now. I was beyond nervous for Blue and had no clue what to expect, just like her. Not only was she meeting her dad for the first time, but his wife and stepdaughter too. And to top it all off, she was going to public school where she knew no one. What unfolded was a beautifully slow, methodical tale of family, love and the journeys we face.
I don't know how so much intensity could be locked inside one person—the kind of intensity that sucks the oxygen from my lungs. He's like the night sky just before a tornado hits: heavy and quiet all at once, whispering secret, dangerous promises and threatening to erupt at any moment.
But I don't want to stop it.
I adored Blue! She was a hippy girl who was kindhearted and saw the world for all of its sunshine and happiness. She had so much hope and love in her heart. And I loved that Blue took journeys in the most optimistic of ways. She was a breath of fresh air in YA, and someone that could help others find the good in their lives. So Blue was carefree, yet thoughtful of those around her. But right from the start, she saw a boy out her new bedroom window. And he was one that was going to completely change her world.
He's so certain the universe has sewn him together with dark, misshapen parts. But I'm looking, I'm always looking, and these aren't the actions of a sick or corrupted soul.
His scare tactics won't work on me.
Joshua Hunt lived in the guesthouse of her father's home, and we also got to hear the story from his pov. I loved Joshua. He was all rugged, thunderclouds and seemed to have a wealth of secrets. He was haunted by his past and present, so Joshua had this cold exterior and kept everyone at arms length away. And while he was attracted to Blue. he needed to keep his focus on school. He didn't want to be bothered with distractions. But Blue had this way of pulling him out of his shell. So as he started to share little pieces of his life with her, oh my heart. Even though it wasn't much, it felt like the world to me.
"What are you doing?" I breathe even though his body tells me everything. I want to hear it in his voice.
A muscle twitches in his jaw, and his strong grip clutches the back of my neck. "Something I've wanted to do for too damn long," he rasps, his lips almost brushing mine. But then he stops. Shuts his eyes. "Tell me it's okay, Blue. Tell me to kiss you."
My heart thumps. My knees sway.
"Kiss me."
I loved watching Blue and Joshua in and out of school. Being the new girl, and different at that, my heart hurt watching her be bullied. But then there was Joshua, silently watching everything unfold. And when he was protective or thoughtful of her?! Sigh. I'm a huge sucker for those types of moments. And later on when things became physical, you guyyyysssss, it was deliciously seductive and oh so hot *fans face*!
He tears his lips from mine, dragging them down my throat, "So . . ."—my collarbone—"fucking . . ."—my shoulder—"perfect." Then he returns to my mouth.
A deep shiver chases my spine.
Blue Skies was an emotional tale about first love and family. While I wanted to rush or fast forward a few things in the latter half of this story, I understand that that was not how Blue and Joshua worked. And looking back, there are so many things I didn't even touch upon. One being how we got to watch the relationship between Blue and her father, Tim, develop. Tim was one of my favorite characters in this book, besides Blue and Joshua. So I loved that this book was also about family, and watching how one grows and blends together. With first love and opposites attract, I really enjoyed this book! I'll definitely be looking into Martin's other books!
For every jagged edge he gives me, I give him some of my softness in return. He nips my lower lip, and I gently lick his. He fists my hair, and I glide my fingertips down his tense back.

This was a wonderfully written mature YA book. It has a coming of age story with the sweetness and sensual allure of young first love. The heroine Blue is a bit of a free spirit. She was raised by her hippie mom and home schooled all her life. Smudging and reading auras are part of her norm as well as running naked through the forest and meditating. When she moves to live with her father and has to go to high school, she has to adjust to the restrictions of social norms including learning to focus in a classroom setting. While I found it difficult to connect with this character, I absolutely loved and respected the way she remained true to herself. Despite teasing and bullying, Blue always carried a positive energy and she was always confident in how she dressed, spoke and acted.
When she meets Hunt, she is not deterred by the tough guy exterior he shows the world. She feels connected to his spirit and knows he has a good heart despite what he wants others to think. Hunt also feels connected to Blue but his natural reaction is to push her away because of his own feelings of inadequacy. He thinks she deserves better than him because of terrible life circumstances he's had to face. I struggled at times with feeling emotionally connected to this couple. I really wanted to love them but I knew something was not quite right when I felt indifferent about whether they got their HEA or not. I will say I did love the steamy scenes. I loved that Blue seemed to be the instigator of their intimate moments and the reluctance Hunt always had despite his strong attraction to her was a real turn on.
There is a huge surprise towards the end of this book. I could feel something coming for a while but I couldn't put my finger on exactly what is was. Needless to say I was not a fan. I won't say because of spoilers but I hate reading books that deal with this particular issue and purposely avoid them. I also didn't like how certain characters, especially Blue's father dealt with the problem and I felt like he should be held a bit accountable for his lack of action. I'm sorry because I know this part of the review is very unhelpful but I don't want to ruin the book for anyone.
Regardless of a few issues I may have had, I thought this book was so beautifully written. I loved the author's writing style and I felt the story flowed really well. It reads very easily and if you are a fan of young love with characters still discovering themselves then I definitely recommend.

Blue Skies contains some pretty heavy subjects and the author handled them beautifully and realistically. Any book that can make me feel on the level that this one did deserves 5 stars. The only note that can I say was the last 20% mark, now don' get me wrong I appreciate and understood the undertaking for the character growth, yet It was a lost cause for me. IMO characterization-wise wasn't needed. I was happier if after the tragedy they just support and love each other, side by side. The separation (mostly blue's persistence decision) was unnecessary, it gives rise to me disconnected from the main characters. I also felt like the ending is a bit dragged and anti-climactic. It's just my takeaway.
Overall I enjoyed reading Blue Skies I was ingrain from the get-go until the end, unputdownable.

Hunt wasn't a lackluster character by any means either, and his storyline combined with Blue's gave us something to remember.
I wanted to both devour and savor this book, and am placing it on my reread shelf. This is one I'll pick up again and again.

This book hit me right in the feels! It was so tragically and emotionally beautiful that there was no hope for dry eyes at the end of it. Usually I tend to stay away from books like these (containing tragedy), but at the same time they're also the ones that get to me the most and are the most memorable and Blue Skies was no exception. The story started of intriguing immediately with Blue (aka hippie) living with her father whom she just met for the first time, his wife and her rude daughter Kimmie. From the beginning I was pulled into the story with this interesting situation Blue found herself in, and even better the unanswered questions of why she didn't know her father previously, why her mother sent her to him and what Kimmie's problem was with her. Pair all that with unique and defining personalities, a complex world view and at last mysterious bad boy Hunt (aka Grumpy) as the love interest and I was sold.
The plot had a lot going on for it with Hunt's side as well with a lousy father, his living situation, the attraction to Blue and other stuff (no spoilers here). In fact, the story had so much so that I was afraid that it would become messy and feel unsolved in the end. Queue my yaw dropping in amazement here. Everything not only tied together perfectly in the end but did so in ways I just could not in any way predict. In a way the story had so many levels and chock value to it as well as such an original way of looking at things that the book has left a permanent impact on me. I cried and cried as tragedy hit and I smiled from ear to ear with all the sweet and satisfying moments in the book that I had been waiting in anticipation for. Sure, there were things plot-wise that I questioned (e.g. what happened with Conway?) and moments that was a bit underwhelming like the whole bullying situation. However with such highs this book took I can easily look past it.
One thing though that is harder for me to look past is the romance. There wasn't anything wrong with it per say. It was sweet, dramatic and had its own complications contributing to the plot. The actual plot however was more appealing and interesting to me than the romance, which is strange because my whole book worm obsession revolves around romance and romance only. Like I said, there wasn't anything wrong with the romance, but I do wish it had that same level of highs and lows as well as the complexity to make my yaw drop as the storyline did. Maybe it's just me being too picky and excepting too much though, and overall I absolutely loved Blue Skies. Five stars obviously!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Everyone should read Blue and Joshua's story at least once in their lifetime.

Definitely recommend all her books. She's an automatic one-click for me!
"Because when you love someone, it's not just you anymore. You do what's right for them not you."
Blue Skies was all at once unexpected, heartbreaking and uplifting, and not necessarily in that order.
T.L. Martin is one of those authors whose books I go in blind because I'm just along for the ride and I know I won't be disappointed. Second book this year she's publishing and she still managed to pull me in and never let go.

"My mom taught me that sometimes, if you can't tell what you're looking at with your eyes open, you need to backtrack. Close them, and you might figure out what's right in front of you."
Bluebell "Blue" Everest was an amazingly different, invigorating and refreshing heroine. She was not like the typical teenager. Her outlook on life, influenced strongly by her mother, was really delightful. As happy and easygoing as she was in the beginning, she became more : she evolved and grew and it made
sense. She made me question myself and the world around me. And for that, she joins the rank of my favorite heroines !As for Joshua "Hunt" Hunter, I fell for him. He really touched me. He was struggling so much, drowning in a sea of worries that no 18yo should have to deal with. And still he never gave up. He found solace in Blue as well as a reason to ask more from life, which he definitely deserves.
"If you can't change your surroundings, change the way you look at them."
On paper Blue and Hunt don't work and still they clicked and it seemed like an evidence. I liked that, even though they could have just relied on each other, they learned to stand on their on two feet first. I also have a soft spot for the supporting character, especially Tim : he was really patient and understanding when he could have been anything but.
I love that this story surprised me and blew my expectations way out of the park. It touched a difficult subject in a way that I didn't see coming and, yes I cried practically non-stop for the last 50 pages of this book. Blue Skies is a book that will definitely stay with me for a long time. I hope everyone will give those characters a chance and fall for their spirit, just like I did.
"As the sun casts its sea of light over us, I look up and can't help but smile. We're surrounded by endless blue skies."
P.S : Well done, Ms. Martin, well done ! And bonus point for the beautiful cover !

Blue Skies is an emotional high school romance written by author T.L. Martin. It tells the story of Joshua Hunt and Blue Everest, and they are not your typical high school students. Joshua has a complicated past, and he's trying very hard to break free of it. He studies a lot and doesn't have a whole lot of time to socialize with any of his peers. Blue grew up a free spirit and was homeschooled until recently.

What started as a visit for a couple of months turned into so much more.
I don't want to say too much about this story, as I want you to experience it first hand as I did. The storyline is just fabulous, and I seriously couldn't turn the pages fast enough! The characters are well developed, and I enjoyed the growth that they showed throughout the book.
Blue Skies is a definite add to your TBR list!

My one critique is that I felt that the ending was rushed and it left me with unresolved questions. (view spoiler)[ At the very end, there is a 2 year separation between the hero and heroine when the hero goes off
This book gave what I wanted from a mature high school Romance book. Well written. Top-tier heroine (I love sunshine heroines). An alpha hero who is sweet to the heroine after she breaks through his cold exterior. And realistic, non-contrived emotions that feel honest to the characters. My one critique is that I felt that the ending was rushed and it left me with unresolved questions. (view spoiler)[ At the very end, there is a 2 year separation between the hero and heroine when the hero goes off to college, and it was unclear as to whether they both remained celibate or not. And given that the hero used to be a sex addict, I feel like that information is particularly relevant. I asked the author afterwards and she said they both were celibate, so I was definitely relieved. However, it would have been nice to have those questions answered in the book; maybe through a couple more chapters after he returned. (hide spoiler)]

I read the authors previous book, Liar Liar not too long ago and was amazed with how I didn't read the authors work before.
I believe people should go in blind with this book, it's one of those books where you read a few chapters and are captivated with the little story that it throws to you.
Blue Skies was so unique in its own way, the character and their development throughout this book will end drawing any one in immediately, the hea Blue Skies by T.L. Martin made it to my top reads of 2020!

Blue Skies was not what I was expecting but in the end it was one of the most emotional and inspirational books I have read this year. The journey that Blue and Joshua have to go through to find their peace is just absolutely breath taking! It's a journey that has its ups and it's downs and it's one that helps each person grow in the ways they need most! What makes this book a little extra beautiful is that fact that you can't help but become emotional invested in all characters! The secondary characters are just as amazing as our hero and heroine!

This is my second book by this author and it feels right to say, she's definitely becoming one of my favourites. This book was dark to an extent, but in comparison to her others, I'm sure it was less. I really liked the take of a hippe heroine because I haven't read many books with a character with that kind of personality. The pairing of a hippie alongside a brooding, possessive hero was just incredible. Really enjoyed this book. My only issue was the ending which I felt like was

My only issue was the ending which I felt like was slightly rushed but only because I would have liked to see more of them together at the end.
That being said, an amazing story by a growing author. I really look forward to her next book.
